Evaluation of Process and Performance of Jazz Lyrical Mirror Dance

EVALUATION OF PROCESS AND PERFORMANCE JAZZ LYRICAL MIRROR DANCE How it went overall? Overall, I believe that the performance went very well for me personally and for us as a group. I feel that we danced together as one instead of individuals on stage dancing together. It felt together. I personally struggled with the dance as it isn’t my personal dance style so I didn’t have a lot of confidence originally with this dance. I also struggled with my flexibility but I made a lot of progress over the rehearsal period. I worked hard on what I didn’t feel confident with, like the double pirouette but I feel that my hard work payed off as I felt that the performance went really well. By the actual rehearsal I felt more free with the dance and felt that I was able to express not only myself but the emotion of the dance well and communicate the emotion to the audience successfully. I landed the double pirouette well which I was very happy about as that was something I was apprehensive about. My ...

Jazz Lyrical Mirror Dance - Week 9 [13/3/24]

Jazz Lyrical Mirror Dance  DANCE DEVELOPMENT Our Jazz Lyrical Dance - Progress This lesson/rehearsal was used to go through the dance as much as possible. Going over it multiple times will allow us to feel as comfortable and confident with the dance as we can. The more we go through it, the more we will remember the dance so that it becomes muscle memory for us. We also rehearsed the dance in the back performance space which is where w will actually be performing the dance. In all previous lessons/rehearsals, we have practiced in the front performance space which is where the audience will be sitting when we do the actual performance. Rehearsing in the actual space we will be performing the dance allows us to get a feel of how much space we actually have to perform. We need to be conscious of the fact that we have less space to perform it in than what we have rehearsed it in. This means that we need to lightly adapt our spacing to fit our per...

Jazz Lyrical Mirror Dance  DANCE DEVELOPMENT Our Jazz Lyrical Dance - Progress The aim of this lesson/rehearsal was to refine the dance and try it with our costume which is a piece of fabric attached to one of our wrists. In this lesson/rehearsal we were paying attention to detail making sure that this dance is as technically precise as possible and look as aesthetically pleasing as possible. For example, neatening up our spacing and arm movements. The aim is to also go through the whole dance as many times as we can in the time we’ve got. Doing this will firstly help with our physical stamina and will also help with us all becoming more confident with the dance so that the actual movements become muscle memory/second-nature so that we are able to equally focus on our actual performance. Each time we went through the dance, someone in the group sat out so they could look at the dance and give the rest of us feedback. This allows us to receive notes...

Jazz Lyrical Mirror Dance  DANCE DEVELOPMENT Our Jazz Lyrical Dance - Progress This lesson/rehearsal's aim was to go through the dance, clean it up, make it neater and more precise. We went through the dance multiple times as a group then Rob (our dance teacher) worked with the individual duet/group of 3 sections to refine them. In my personal duet section, we cleaned up the movements one of which being the beginning pose. We now position our arms differently by having our inside arm be up and at the back and our outside arm to be in front. This opens up our position a lot more to the audience. Another key change we made was that we do an obvious movement that prepares us for a pirouette. This is good technique but does make the dance predictable as it's obvious that our next movement would be a turn. To add some surprise, we made the movement before our turn a "behind, side, front". This movement is much more visually interesting and doesn't make our dan...
