Future Development Plan Completed Performance Tasks for Unit 13 & 14: Rock of Ages Performance November 2023 Solo Dance Performance November 2023 Contemporary Dance Performance March 2024 Jazz Lyrical Mirror Dance March 2024 Tap Dance Performance June 2024 TASK ONE: Progress Stamina:  One skill I would say that I have definitely made progress in is the 6 physical skill, Stamina. Before starting this course, my only source of exercise was my dance classes that I have once a week. When I first joined the course and we were beginning our rehearsals for our show, ‘Rock of Ages’, we were doing a lot of practical, almost every day. This was a struggle for me at the start as I got out of breath and worn out quickly and this in turn affected my dancing and held me back from being able to go full out in rehearsals. This also meant that on the days we didn’t have practical/dance, my body was really aching from the amount of exercise I was now doing during ‘Rock of Ages’. To help me impro...

Technical Rehearsal for Spotlight: Tap Dance

Main Parts Arising from the Rehearsal Volume: In our classroom and lesson time, we were used to tapping at a volume where only our class needs to hear the sounds of us tapping. This meant that when it came to the dress rehearsal, Rob spoke to us after we did a run-through  and said that we needed to increase our volume by tapping louder so that the audience can also hear us clearly. We have to now consider how far away we are from the audience and the volume of the music. Looking at the floor: During our dress run, I had the full costume on, meaning I had sunglasses on and the stage was quite dimly lit and I still was nervous about the number so I was firstly looking at the floor as it was dark and secondly because I was checkin I was doing the right steps. Now that I had a run-through to get a feel of the stage, wearing sunglasses will be okay as I now know where I need to stand. I just need to remember to raise my eye line and have confidence in myself that I know the step...

Lessons in Tap - Week 6 - Part 1 & 2 [4/6/24 & 5/6/24] / Week 7 - [11/6/24]

LESSONS IN TAP   Developing Our Skills - Week 6 [4/6/24 & 5/6/24] Tap Routine Run-through / Dress Run for Spotlight Overall, I feel very positive about this run-through of our tap number. We have now completely finished it so what we need to do now is refine the dance to make sure we are all together and in time. When it comes to the actual performance skills, I would say we are all successfully characterising the dance well. This is all very good but I think we do focus on it maybe slightly too much so our actual technique is getting sloppy. We need to balance our focus on both performance and technique. We do well to stay in time with our own separate groups and I think this is because there’s less people to try and be in time with. When it comes to the group close work sequence, in the video I can see and hear that we all start at different points and some go faster than others. This is because we aren’t firstly listening to each other, secondly we are not listening t...

LESSONS IN TAP   Developing Our Skills - Week 5 [28/5/24 & 29/5/24] Tap: Lesson Work Overview  In this lesson, we continued to refine our sequences in the dance. The video above is an overview of what we worked on throughout the lesson. At the start you can see our first attempt at working together and then our more refined run through. You can clearly see and hear the difference between the 2. In our first attempt, we are out of time with one another and didn’t all start at the same time. When we do it again after some cleaning up, we are a lot more together and we are in unison. We need to be able to maintain that unison throughout the whole dance not just for one small section. Breaking it down like this and refining each section individually is going to really help us with our timing.  I also worked with Verity and we worked on making sure we were in time. I said the counts while Verity did the sequence to make sure we were in time with each other. This was...

Lessons in Tap - Week 4 - Part 2 [22/5/24]

LESSONS IN TAP   Developing Our Skills - Week 4 - Part 2 [22/5/24] For this rehearsal we were in our costumes that we will be wearing in ‘Spotlight’ for the first time. This is to help us firstly get into characters and help to actually characterise the dance a bit more as when we practice we are quite stiff as we are focusing on the steps and timing a lot. This is very important for the dance to be good but for it to be visually interesting we also need to put some focus into our actual on stage characters in this dance. Secondly, we needed to see if we would be comfortable enough in the costumes we have chosen because if we are not we still have time to change what we are wearing. We are wearing our own clothes for this tap number and we are just dressing ‘cool’ to fit the vibe of the song. I personally will be wearing jorts (jean-shorts), a tank top, a tie, a backwards cap and sunglasses.  We warmed up by going over old sequences, specifically the key ones that are a...
